Dassen Island cruise
Adventure under sail
Join us for a multi-day sail travelling North from Cape Town. The most spectacular of the world’s Capes offers unique opportunities for leisure, sightseeing and thrill. We will treat you to an experience of a lifetime. It may turn out to be a leisurely tranquil sail, or an exciting adventure.
Stay a night anchored at Dassen Island
Dassen Island is characterised by tranquillity. Its peacefulness makes it one of our favourite sailing destinations close to Cape Town.
We will meet at Hout Bay marina after lunch where you will be greeted by Mark, your host and skipper for the duration of the adventure. He will show you to your cabin onboard sailing vessel Ronin and give you time to stow your gear and settle in. After routine boat familiarisation and a safety brief you can choose to stay aboard or go ashore to explore the harbour and the surrounding town. There are numerous good shops, markets and restaurants in the area to visit.
Depending on the weather we will either spend the night on anchor in the bay or stay in the harbour for a quiet night in. Staying the night on board in Hout Bay helps to acclimatise to the movement of the boat before we set out to sea the following morning.
Slip the mooring lines and haul up the anchor, we’re off to sea! Once out of the bay, we are on our way to see Cape Town’s mountain range from offshore. We will sail past the Twelve Apostles, Llandudno, Camps Bay and Cape Town. Then it is northward past the famous Robin Island leaving Table Mountain in our wake. Relax and enjoy the sail to the remote Dassen Island, just off Yzerfontein. Once there we anchor in the bay and settle in for the evening. Watch the sunset, enjoy the peace and quiet.
For the early risers, sunrise at Dassen Island is a must, followed by good coffee and breakfast. Then it is anchors away and we’re on our way north to pass further islands before entering Langebaan lagoon. The rest of the day can be enjoyed exploring this beautiful area. After choosing your favourite spot to anchor for the night, the choice is yours to go ashore by dinghy for dinner or stay aboard.
This is the last day of our adventure together. We will enjoy a relaxing breakfast on board and after a sail around the lagoon we will disembark at Club Mykonos, which offers accommodation and is a short walk to town where you can rent a car for your trip back to Cape Town. If you prefer a more scenic route back to Cape Town, we can assist you in organizing an overland trip through the famous West Coast region or you could book a trip back on Ronin.
